This Program Area focuses on research, training and consultancy services related to Urban and Rural Development Studies, with extensive experience in planning, infrastructure development and sustainable urban management.
CED has good experience in urban planning, preparation of City Development Plans, GIS maps for cities and Panchayats,GIS Master Plans for Cities, designs, estimates and master plans for solid waste and wastewater management, storm-water management and slum improvement programmes.CED has prepared Solid Waste Management Plans(SWM PLan)for 41 cities in Kerala.
The Centre is also engaged in research and technology development in urban and rural development sectors, including Urban Heritage and Urban Environment Management studies to support Urban Local Bodies in planning and managing these sectors.Engaged in Local level planning of Panchayats with community participation

ExploreCED was the Centre of Excellence of the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India in the area of Urban Development,with focus on Solid Waste and Waste Water Management and the expertise developed during these period has been utilizedto provide technical and institutional support to Urban Local Bodies.
The Centre supports Urban Local Bodies in Solid Waste and Waste Water Management and undertakes action research and technology development as part of its Centre of Excellence activities.Providing Consulatncy Services for major Water Supply,Solid Waste Management and Waste Water Management projects funded by international agencies like JICA, World Bank, ADB, AIIB,KfW & GIZ Germany,etc
CED is engaged in massive capacity building and training programmes for Urban Local Bodies across Kerala, Odisha, Jharkhand, Rajasthan,Tamil Nadu,Himachal Pradesh and Union Territory of LK Islands.
These programmes form part of various Flagship capacity building programs of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India, supporting local institutions with knowledge, technical expertise and practical solutions.Also carried out Capacity Building and Training Programs for engineers supported by KfW, Germany and GIZ, Germany
