About CED

The Centre for Environment and Development (CED), established in 1993, is an autonomous research and development, training and consultancy organisation focussing on fields related to Environment and Development. CED has its Headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram, Eastern Region Centre in Bhubaneswar, Regional Centre in Hyderabad and projects in Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Pondicherry and Gujarat apart from Odisha and Kerala.

CED is the Centre of Excellence on Solid Waste and Waste water Management, Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India; National Key Resource Centre on Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India and also the Regional Resource Agency, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Government of India.

CED is an Empanelled Agency of the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India for City Development Plan Preparation and also Water Supply and Sanitation, Sewarage and Drainage. CED is also an Accredited Agency of Government of Kerala for Solid Waste Management.   CED is recognised as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation by the Department of Scientific & Industrial Research, Government of India.

Objectives:

  • To carry out research on subjects related to environment and development and to serve as an institution of higher learning
  • To interact/collaborate with Universities, R&D institutions and Developmental agencies in India and abroad for research on environment and sustainable development, technology innovation and transfer of technology
  • To provide scientific and technological support to implement developmental projects of Local Self Government institutions and other agencies
  • To carryout capacity building, training and outreach programs for different target groups
  • To provide consultancy services to government and multi-lateral agencies
  • To provide support on  policy formulation to various tiers of government
  • To develop databases and information systems on specific areas related to environment and development
Organisational Structure

Governing Council

The Governing Council constitutes 07 members headed by the Chairman. The Executive Director of the Centre officiates as the Member-Secretary of the Council.

Research Advisory Council

The Research Advisory Council (RAC) advises the Centre on all matters related to research, consultancy, training and academic programs. The RAC constituted with 15 members are experts in various fields.

Faculty Council

The Faculty Council includes all the scientists of the Centre and acts as a platform for sharing expertise and formulation of research programs. The Faculty Council meets once in 2 weeks.
